COULD LONDON’S ICONIC TELEPHONE BOXES BECOME SOLAR POWERED PHONE CHARGERS?

Two LSE students, Kirsty Kenney and Harold Cranston have had an ingenious idea that could be set to transform London’s iconic red telephone boxes in to free, solar powered mobile phone charging kiosks.

The pair received a £5,000 grant from the Mayor of London back in June to help fund a pilot study, which is taking place in Camden right now. They have been working with Camden Council, British Telecom, investors and an experienced engineer to see if they can turn their idea, which they call solarBOX, in to a reality.

It sounds like a great idea and we wish them all the best.
