HACKNEY’S FIRST COMMUNITY ENERGY PROJECT REACHES FUNDRAISING TARGET

Congratulations to Hackney Energy, who just a few days ago, not only reached their fundraising target of £142,000 to set up Hackney’s first community energy project, but exceeded it.

Working alongside Repowering London and Hackney Council, Hackney Energy can now install solar panels on 14 rooftops at the Banister House estate in the borough. Residents of the estate and a wider pool of locals were given the opportunity to purchase shares in the project, taking control of their own energy future whilst gaining returns on their investment. As part of the project, young people from Banister House Estate (many of whom have been involved in training programmes over the last year) will gain paid work experience helping Athena Electrical in the installation of the solar panels in the coming months.

We wish Hackney Energy and the residents of Banister House all the best for their renewable energy future.
