The Community Energy Coaltion was formed 3 years ago to help place energy in the hands of the communities that benefit from it. There has been a recent surge in community energy projects being set up across the UK, allowing local residents to own, generate and save energy together.
For the second year running, the Community Energy Coalition are organising ‘Community Energy Fortnight‘, which is well under way, with events offering people the opportunity to explore and celebrate how communities are taking control of their energy future.
Earlier this year, Hackney Energy, the boroughs first energy co-operative was formed with help from Repowering London. This Saturday (20th September) they will be hosting an event at Homerton Grove Adventure Playground, home of one of the first solar installations in the borough, back in 1995.
Hackney residents are invited to see the newly restored solar panels, learn about solar and find out Hackney Energy’s ideas for the future. Community Energy Fortnight runs until the 28th September.
