The London Bike Kitchen, based in east London, is a non profit enterprise that wants the humble bicycle to be the chosen mode of transport, not just in London, but the world. They see the benefits of cycling, whether it be economic, social, environmental or just to improve your health.
The role of the London Bike Kitchen is to teach and support people in maintaining their bike, which they do through a small yearly membership fee. Members receive discounts on bike parts and the plethora of courses they regularly run to help people with all facets of bike maintenance from an introductory course to building your own bike. Twice a month they also run women only and what they call ‘gender-variant’ workshops, in the hope of moving away from the belief that fixing stuff is a man’s domain.
